My Icelandic family has a summer cabin. If you’re willing to plough through the snow, it can of course also be a winter cabin. We drove into the valley by car as far as we could, and walked the final six kilometres with a pulk (sled for luggage, traditionally used by the Sápmi). A good excuse to maintain my polar navigation skills.

The car did its best – now it is just our legs!
The sign warns us that this is the last bridge, from now on you’ll just have to cross the rivers yourself.
The sled itself is not too heavy, but walking through snow is. Next time I should try ski’s.
We’re grateful to reach the cabin by twilight.
