“Nothing’s open on the island right now”, the staff at the ferry station in Stykkishólmur warned us. That was perfectly ok, we only came for the scenery and boat trip anyway. Flatey is home to only 5 people or so, but in summer people visit the island to stay at the hotel or campsite, watch birds and enjoy an island feeling. We were the only ones disembarking the ferry, that went on to cross Breiðafjörður and pick us up again on the way back. We spotted eagles and owls, and many shipwrecks.
