I’ve been thinking about the word “impression”. Landscapes, plants and other creatures can make profound impressions on us, that are hard to describe. Using monoprints, we can directly use pressing and printing techniques to recreate the impressions that the natural world makes upon us, in a quite literal way. Sometimes nature doesn’t any need redescribing or redefining. Who do we think we are, that we even need to do that.
All plants were gathered at my father’s old house in Raufarhöfn, Iceland, pressed in an old flora for several years. Then I pressed them onto linoleum sheets with paint and printed them under a printing press.
